Two NCP leaders resign before election campaign

National Citizen Party (NCP) election campaign is starting from Chittagong. Leaders and workers of the party will visit different areas of the port city tomorrow Monday to campaign for votes. Party chief Nahid Islam will also join the march. However, before the start of this program, at least two leaders of Chittagong region have announced their resignation.

They are NCP central joint chief organizer and hill region supervisor Eamon Syed and Chittagong metropolitan senior joint coordinator and member secretary of Bandarban district Erfanul Haque. Both of them announced their resignation on social media Facebook.

Imman Syed wrote, ‘I am Imman Syed. Served as Central Joint Chief Organizer and Hill Area Supervisor of National Citizen Party (NCP). As per the decision taken earlier, I have decided to withdraw from all organizational activities of the NCP—which I am now officially announcing.’

Eamon Syed was nominated by the NCP as its candidate for the plebiscite campaign from Chittagong-16 constituency.

Earlier, Bandarban district member secretary Erfanul Haque announced his resignation from NCP on Saturday. Expressing anger over the decision to nominate a candidate from outside the Bandarban constituency, he resigned.

In a Facebook post, Erfanul Haque wrote, ‘The main desire of the July mass coup was to build a citizen-based state system. Although the NCP was formed with that goal in mind, the people and party leaders have been disappointed by the many decisions taken by the party after its debut as a political party. After the formation of the party, proper opportunity was not given to expand the organization at the grass root level and many obstacles were created in the nomination of candidates.

Erfanul said regarding the nomination of a candidate for Bandarban seat, “The self-respect and dignity of the hill community has been hurt by nominating a candidate from outside Bandarban. Nominating a person who does not understand the reality and struggles of the hills is against the sentiments of the local people.’

Erfanul expressed his support to BNP in the upcoming elections. He urged to vote for BNP’s candidate Satching Pru Jerry in Bandarban constituency. Apart from this, he mentioned in the Facebook post that he will vote for him.
