Simmons is satisfied with Bangladesh's mental toughness

In the first innings of the Jamaica Test, Bangladesh tried to win even after being all out for just 164 runs. They took a lead of 18 runs by all out West Indies for 146 runs by Nahid Rana's great bowling. Then Zaker Ali's impeccable 268 in an innings set the hosts a tough target of 287 runs. Head coach Phil Simmons could not help but appreciate the mental strength of Bangladesh.

After losing the first Test by 201 runs, Bangladesh had to pay a heavy price for the decision to bat first in Jamaica. But Simmons believes the way the team has turned around will give them the confidence to bounce back in tough conditions.

“I liked the way the batsmen played with a positive attitude,” the West Indian coach told the official broadcast after the match. After Simmons took over, he saw Bangladesh struggle to survive in a few matches, saying, 'The first few matches (since I took over) they played with a survival mindset. On the third day you will see, they are saying, 'We are here to play.' I find it enjoyable. I wanted to make sure they know, this is how they have to play from now on. These young players were waiting to win Tests. Good to see them bounce back after losing the first test match. It is a great pleasure for me.'
