Crisis

There has been an extreme crisis of birth control materials in the country. Government supply has come down to one-fourth in demand. This figure has emerged in the past one year statistics for the use of birth control materials. In some areas the supply is zero. It has increased the risk of unexpected pregnancy and the risk of pregnancy at an early age. Experts are concerned about its possible impact.

According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), more than one-third of the birth control materials used by the people of the country, that is, 5 percent comes from the public sector. In addition, 5 percent from the private sector, 5 percent from the NGOs (NGOs) and 5 percent from other sources. According to experts, the public sector is not the main source, but the total population of the total population should be called a large rate of 5 percent.

Of the total seven types of birth control methods, five types of methods are officially distributed among capable couples. These are – eating pills, injectables, condoms, implants and IUDs.

According to government data, the birth control methods used in the country are used by 5 percent, injectable 5 percent, condoms 5 percent, implants 5.7 percent, IUD 5 percent and male NSV surgery and female tubectomy surgery (permanent infant).

Data from the Family Planning Department says that the government is usually distributed to 1 to 1 lakh leaves (20 pills per page). The number of other material distribution in normal time is 1 to 1 lakh, condom 1 lakh to 1 crore, implant 1 to 3 thousand and IUD 1 to 3 thousand. However, the distribution of these materials has been reduced in the last one year as the government is unable to ensure the supply of the goods.

Statistics show that the use of the methods has started to decrease since January last year. At that time the food pill was supplied to 1 lakh. And last month it has dropped to only 2 lakh. Similarly, in January 2021, 1 lakh injectables were used, but last month it was reduced to 3,000. 2 million condoms were used in January 2021. It is 5 percent less than normal time. Last month, the use of condoms has stopped at 1 lakh 3 thousand. Implants were used in the last month 2,000. And more than 3,000 IUDs have been used.

Department sources say that there is no eating pill in 5 upazilas in 5 upazilas. The reserves of 5 will be zero soon. There are less than 5 demand. Similarly, there are no condoms in 5 upazilas and IUD in 5 upazilas. A similar image has been shown in the storage of other methods.

An official in the central office of the department told the reporter on condition of anonymity that the process of buying materials started earlier last year. However, the then Health Education and Family Welfare Secretary. Azizur Rahman did not approve of the purchase. He said 'to continue' the work with the materials he has. The high -ranking official commented that there was a crisis of birth control materials across the country due to the lack of vision of the then secretary. In addition, the health sector strategic plan (OP) ended last June. Due to the lack of a new OP for a period of 5 years, the health sector causes various expenditures.

Family

Matiur Rahman, deputy director of the Madaripur District Family Planning Office, told today's newspaper, “I am trying to meet the needs locally. The pill is not in the field right now. There is a condom. Injectable, IUD. The implant will end in the next month. We advise couples alternative methods. For example, I am asked to buy pills in their own initiative for the women. Or let us talk about the alternative method we have. As a result, the crisis is serious, it is not right to say. '

Population

The total fertility rate in the country is currently 2.3, BBS said. The total fertility rate of a woman gives birth to an average of her breeding age (3 to 5 years). That is, in the country, a woman is currently giving birth to more than two children. Population experts and public health are feared to increase unexpected pregnancy, adolescent pregnancy and abortion rates in the country due to the crisis of birth control materials.

Experts say that most of the materials that the government distributes is the poor marginalized people. Due to the deficit, they are not getting the materials. As a result, unexpected pregnancy will increase.

Population experts and public healthists say the government has reduced the importance of the population control program over time. Many of them think that the problem of population growth has been virtually ignored in the government's highest policymaking palace in the recent decade.

Bangladesh is now the most densely populated country in the world. In this country, the apparent stagnation of the success of the population control program has emerged. Under Mohammad Bilal Hossain. Talking to today's newspaper, he said, “The golden age of population control was the eighties and nineties of the last century. Our total fertility rate in the 5th was 5.7. From then on, the rate was the same until the 20th. It came down to 25 and 20. But the rate has remained in the same position since the beginning of the year … and the government's policy deficit has been shown in the last few years to control the population. The matter is not seen in the government's priority lately. '

Dr. Mohammad Bilal Hossain also said that 5 percent of the country's couples are capable of using birth control system. However, the birth control system is using or getting 5 percent of the couples. The ten percent of the children who do not have a plan to have children have no materials in their hands. Many of those women are unexpectedly having children or abortion. If there is a crisis in the supply of materials, it will naturally have a negative impact.

Director General of the Family Planning Department Dr. with the ongoing crisis of supply of materials. Ashrafi Ahmed said, “The purchase process had stopped as the OP suddenly stopped. We are trying to buy birth control materials from the revenue budget. The process of purchase has also begun. '
