Italian Eni will resume drilling operations in the Zohr field next December

Arab Finance: Italian energy giant Eni will resume drilling operations in the Zohr natural gas field next December, with the company's rig arriving to drill two new wells, according to… He said Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawy during the weekly press conference held by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

The government aims to increase the production of the Zohr field – which is the largest gas field in the country and the largest discovery in the Mediterranean – by 220 million cubic feet per day through drilling, according to Badawi.

This should help restore some of the field's previous production, which fell from its peak of 2.76 billion cubic feet per day in the third quarter of 2021 to less than two billion cubic feet per day in the first half of 2024, according to press reports.

Egypt's production increased by 30,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and 133 million cubic feet of natural gas during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2024/2025, according to the minister. He added that total production currently amounts to 1.4 million barrels of oil equivalent per day.
