Former officer in charge of Bonarpara food warehouse Ziaur Rahman has been fired for stealing 100 tons of paddy, rice and wheat in Saghata upazila of Gaibandha. At the same time, the food department ordered to collect a fine of Tk 95 lakh 55 thousand from him.

Gaibandha District Food Officer Mizanur Rahman confirmed this information on Tuesday (October 29) evening.

Before this, on October 7, the director general of the food department said. In a letter signed by Abdul Khalek, this order has been asked to be implemented.

The fired Ziaur Rahman was working in Bonarpara food warehouse in 2022. He has been absconding ever since the theft. His house is in Sarkarpara of Kellaband area of ​​Rangpur Sadar Upazila.

According to the food department and local sources, Ziaur Rahman stole 76 tons of rice, 24 tons of rice, about one ton of wheat and 4,000 empty sacks from the food warehouse during the internal boro collection season 2022 and sold them to some local traders. Later, he sent non-ordered rice from Bonarpara food warehouse to Narayanganj CSD. Most of these rice carrying trucks are loaded outside the warehouse and the remaining trucks are loaded inside the warehouse.

The godown was sealed by the local administration and the food department when this incident came to light. Later, by calculating the amount of rice and rice in the warehouse, the shortage of rice, rice and wheat was found. From the day of the incident, Ziaur Rahman left the godown key and ran away. Later, in the high-level investigation of the food department, Ziaur Rahman, the officer in charge, was permanently suspended on October 7 for the crime of stealing and selling 100 tons of paddy, rice and wheat. At the same time, a fine of Tk 95 lakh 55 thousand was ordered. Currently, Ziaur Rahman is absconding.

In this regard, District Food Officer Mizanur Rahman said, Ziaur Rahman has been ordered to deposit Tk 95 lakh 55 thousand in fine to the government treasury within three months of the notification. Otherwise action will be taken against him as per Government Debt Collection Act.
