The tribunal has taken into consideration the charges against 12 people including former MP Shamim Osman in the case of crimes against humanity in the case of killings that took place in Narayanganj during the anti-discrimination movement. As they are absconding, an arrest warrant has been issued against them. And by implementing the arrest warrant, Judge Md ordered them to appear on January 26. The three-member International Criminal Tribunal-1 headed by Golam Mortuza Majumder.
Earlier, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam presented the three charges brought against them in the tribunal. It is said in the complaint that during the 2024 mass uprising, Sheikh Hasina ordered to suppress the movement at any cost using lethal weapons. AKM Shamim Osman was in regular contact with the then Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader to implement Sheikh Hasina’s instructions. On July 19, 2024, Shamim Osman called the then bridge minister Obaidul Quader and said, ‘The police could not do anything, they are asking for help, I had to take up arms. Can’t move without weapons. I ran and watered them all. Catching at two o’clock, now going to Siddhirganj. And I am talking to Sajal Molla that you support us. We are clearing Chittagong Road. You tell me a little. You tell the leader. Don’t get angry when you see a picture of him holding a weapon.’
The complaint further states that on July 19 from 1 am to 6 pm in different areas of Narayanganj under the direction and presence of Shamim Osman, his son Imtinan Osman Ayan alias Ayan Osman, nephew Ajmeri Osman, Ayan Osman’s brother-in-law Ahmad Minhajul Abedin Viki, Shamim Osman’s brother-in-law Tanveer Ahmed Titu targeted unarmed protesters with firearms. He fired indiscriminately. At that time, protesting student Parvez, madrasa student Kishore Adil, garment worker Yasin, bus driver Abul Hossain Mizi, garment worker Russell Rana and six-year-old child Riya Gop were killed. Ahmed Ali, Samrat, Al Amin, Hasan Gazi, Rana and many other agitators were seriously injured in the assassination attempt. which has been committed with the knowledge, connivance, presence and assistance of the accused.
