The case of Bangladeshi workers against the British company in Malaysia will continue in the London court

A case was filed in Malaysia in 2022 against Dyson, the British vacuum cleaner manufacturer, alleging the forced labor of 24 workers from Bangladesh and Nepal. Following this case, the UK Court of Appeal ruled last Friday (December 13) that the case could continue in London.

According to the report of the news agency Reuters, in 2022, some workers from Bangladesh and Nepal filed this case against Dyson Technology Limited, Dyson Limited and one of their subsidiaries in Malaysia. One of whom died. But now the case is being handled by his family.

The complaint alleges that while working for the Malaysian company ATA Industrial and its subsidiaries, workers were illegally withheld from their salaries and sometimes beaten for not meeting set targets. These workers worked to make parts for Dyson products.

The lawyers in the case said that the Dyson company is responsible for this labor abuse.

Dyson denied the workers' complaints by terminating their contract with Malaysian firm ATA Industrial in 2021. The firm said, 'The case should be in Malaysia, not Britain.'

Last year, the High Court also accepted this argument and directed the case to be tried in Malaysia. However, the Court of Appeal overturned that decision and ruled that London was the appropriate place to hear the case.

A Dyson spokeswoman said: 'This is not a substantive hearing, but a procedural hearing to determine where the case will go.' He also said that the company does not agree with the judgment of the Appellate Court and is considering further legal action.

Founded by British inventor James Dyson, the company is best known for its bagless vacuum cleaners. Currently, about 2,500 employees are working in this company in the UK. Many of whom work at the research and development center Malmesbury. But in July, Dyson announced 1,000 layoffs worldwide.
