The calculus of the Ukraine war is changing

US President-elect Donald Trump's comments have created confusion about the war in Ukraine. According to a report of the American media Washington Post, Trump spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin. At this time, he called on Putin to stop the war in Ukraine. However, the Kremlin denied this claim. In addition, France has also expressed concern about the future of the war.

According to the report, Trump spoke with the Russian President on the phone last Thursday after winning the Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris in the US presidential election. At the time, Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

During a telephone conversation, Trump reminded Putin of the US's “huge military presence” on European soil. According to sources, Trump also expressed his interest in talking to Putin again soon to resolve the ongoing war in Ukraine.

However, the content of this Washington Post report has been termed as 'pure gossip' by the Kremlin. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said of such telephone conversations, “This is a total lie.” It's pure bullshit. This is just false information.' At this time, he also said, 'There was no phone conversation.' Peskov added that Putin currently has no specific plans to talk to Trump. In addition, the Kremlin has said that the Western world is not yet ready to stop this war.

Congratulating Trump on being elected president for the second term, Putin said Moscow is ready to discuss the resolution of the crisis in Ukraine. He is also interested in Trump's expressed willingness to restore relations with Russia and help resolve the Ukraine crisis.

Apart from this, Trump also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last Wednesday. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden has invited Trump to the Oval Office to discuss this war. In this regard, National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan said that Biden can advise Trump that the United States should not abandon Ukraine. Because Europe could become more unstable if the US leaves Ukraine.

Warning message from France

Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot issued a warning over Trump's comments on the war in Ukraine. In the presence of international representatives at the Paris Peace Forum conference yesterday, he said, 'The new administration of the United States will sit in power, what steps they will take, there is still speculation. I believe, we should not assume anything in advance.'

It is believed that the Trump administration may begin negotiating a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine to reduce the cost of the war in Ukraine. In this situation, the issue of the Putin-Trump phone conversation and the newly elected US President's comments on ending the war in Ukraine came to the fore. However, the French foreign minister said yesterday, 'We have to take time to work with the newly elected President Trump.' He also said, 'France also wants it. Because, we believe, Ukraine should give us this advantage, so that they can push back the Russian forces.'

The French minister also said, 'If Russia proceeds with the policy of “I have more power, so I will do whatever I want” – the international community will have a lot to lose from this war.

Meanwhile, Finland has announced to stand by Ukraine. The country's foreign minister Elina Valtonen said, “We hope that there will be more good news from the United States on the Ukraine issue.” At the same time, he urged Europe to do more for Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the good news for Ukraine is the Joe Biden administration. They say that the money allocated for Ukraine will be waived before Trump takes office.
