Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has condemned and protested the baseless and purposeful campaign of some quarters linking the Chhatra Shibir with the unwanted and chaotic incident at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Ali (RA) in Mirpur.
In a joint statement on Saturday (May 16), Central President of Chhatra Shibir Nurul Islam and Secretary General Sibgatullah said, ‘Chhatra Shibir has no relation or involvement with the unpleasant incident that happened in the premises of Shah Ali Shrine in Mirpur on the night of last May 14. Chhatra Shibir is a systematic, disciplined and ideological student organization with full respect for the prevailing laws of the country. Attacking any religious place of worship, shrine or ordinary visitors or creating any kind of chaos by taking the law into one’s own hands is completely against the principles, ideals and organizational traditions of Chhatra Shibir.’
In a statement, Chhatra Shibir leaders said, ‘We note with deep concern that some responsible officials of law enforcement and some media are trying to associate the name of Chhatra Shibir with this incident without revealing the real truth of the incident. While local eyewitnesses and another source from the administration itself referred to the incident as immediate public resistance and chaos against local drug addicts, accusing a disciplined and law-abiding student organization without any concrete evidence and investigation is part of a deep conspiracy. Basically, this planned propaganda is being carried out to gain political advantage of a special group and to undermine the clean image of Chhatra Shibir.
In the statement, the leaders called for immediate withdrawal of such irresponsible, untrue and misleading statements. At the same time, he strongly demanded the administration to reveal the real truth of the incident through analysis of CCTV footage and impartial investigation and bring the real culprits who created chaos under the law. The leaders have humbly requested the countrymen not to be misled by any such organized misinformation and propaganda.
