OpenAI leans towards coding to prevent anthropic

OpenAI, one of the pioneers in the field of artificial intelligence, has announced a radical change in their business strategy. Moving away from the policy of working on multiple projects simultaneously, the company now focuses on coding and ensuring specialized services for business users. Basically, this decision was made by Sam Altman-led organization to maintain the top position by competing with the rival company ‘Anthropic’.

Fidzi Simo, CEO of OpenAI’s applications, outlined the new strategy at an internal workshop last week. He said that CEO Sam Altman and Chief Research Officer Mark Chen are currently identifying redundant projects, which will reduce investment and manpower.

“We cannot lose this special moment by wasting time on side projects or ‘side quests,'” Simo warned the workers. Our main aim should be to ensure productivity, especially productivity in the business sector.’

In Silicon Valley, Anthropic’s ‘Cloud Code’ and ‘CoWork’ services are currently popular. In particular, Claude’s dominance among software engineers is serving as a ‘wake-up call’ for OpenAI. In order to survive this competition, Simo mentioned that the situation like emergency has been created in the company.

Notably, last year OpenAI announced a number of products such as video generator ‘Sora’, web browser ‘Atlas’ and new hardware devices. But according to analysts, the multi-pronged campaign obscured the company’s core mission. Even though the video app ‘Sora’ was popular in the beginning, its number of users has decreased over time.

Both OpenAI and Anthropic are working towards listing on the stock market in the fourth quarter of this year. The preparation for this public appearance has essentially intensified the struggle between the two institutions.

OpenAI is now planning for the long term. Own hardware devices are planned to be used to increase user productivity. Apart from this, the company is trying to regain the lost market with the new version of the ‘Codex’ app released last month and the professional work model ‘GPIT 5.4’. Codex’s active user base has quadrupled since the beginning of the year, and currently stands at 2 million, Fiji Simo said.

With this strategic shift at OpenAI, it is clear that the company is now focusing more on business sustainability and professional effectiveness rather than just making amazing products.
