India has never been in favor of de-dollarization and currently there is no proposal to introduce a BRICS currency, said Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He made this comment while participating in a panel discussion at the Doha Forum on Saturday. Indian media The Telegraph India reported this information.
“India has always believed in pragmatic policies and has no plans for de-dollarization,” he said. De-dollarization is the use of a different currency as an alternative to the US dollar in international trade.
Recently, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 100 percent tariffs on BRICS countries. Since then, the BRICS currency has been discussed as an alternative to the dollar. In this context, Jaishankar said, 'There is no common position among the BRICS countries on this issue.'
He also said, 'Although the interests of each country are different, everyone works together on international issues.'
Referring to the possibility of reconciliation in the Russia-Ukraine war, he said, 'It is time to move towards a solution instead of prolonging the war. India is maintaining communication between Moscow and Kiev.'
This year's conference of the Doha Forum, organized by the government of Qatar, began on Friday. It is a global platform that works on diplomacy and innovative policy making.
