Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled four activists from the party in connection with the attack on journalists after the anti-fascist rally in Dhanmondi of the capital. Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka Metropolitan South took this punitive decision based on the recommendation of the investigation committee formed by the party on Wednesday.
The expelled workers are Shafiqul Islam, Khairul Alam Russell, Abul Kalam and Mamun Hossain. This information was confirmed in a circular signed by Abdus Sattar Suman, Assistant Publicity Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South.
Incidentally, on Tuesday, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami organized an anti-fascist protest march at Dhanmondi 32 area of the capital under the initiative of Dhanmondi Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan South. At the end of the procession, the journalists started arguing with the leaders and activists present. At one point, when the situation became heated, some leaders and activists were accused of attacking journalists. Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir, a multimedia reporter of Daily Sakal, was injured.
According to journalists present at the scene, Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir was injured in the attack and started bleeding. Colleagues rescued him from the scene and admitted him to Bangladesh Medical Hospital.
Jamaat came under criticism soon after the attack on journalists came to light. Later, Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka Metropolitan South leaders immediately went to the residence of the injured journalist Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir and inquired about his physical condition.
Condolences and statements were issued by the Center and the metropolis condemning the incident. At the same time, an investigation committee headed by Prof. Nurunnabi Manik, director of Dhanmondi Zone and member of Metropolitan Working Council, was quickly formed to identify the real cause of the incident and the people involved. The investigation committee formed today submitted its investigation report to Dhaka Metropolitan South Branch. This decision was taken on the basis of that report.
