Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has alleged that the government’s failure to run the state has led to an increase in murders, rapes and civil insecurity in the country. He said that after the elections people thought that the situation would improve, but in reality the law and order situation has worsened.
He said these things at the NCP joining ceremony of people from different classes and professions of Dhaka metropolis north and south at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium of National Press Club this Friday afternoon.
The NCP claimed that around 1500 people from various professions including teachers, businessmen, doctors, engineers, lawyers joined Dhaka Metropolitan North and South NCP.
Asif Mahmud said that politics is not just about numbers, it is a means of changing people’s quality of life. If politics at the ward, thana or mohalla level cannot have a positive impact on people’s lives, then that politics has no meaning. NCP sees metropolitan politics not only as politics of power, but as politics of bringing new culture and positive change in urban governance.
Criticizing the Home Minister, the NCP spokesperson said, ‘At times, it seems that he is more in the role of Prime Minister or President than the Home Minister; But the Ministry of Home Affairs does not see an effective role in fulfilling its duties.’
Addressing the government, the NCP spokesperson said, ‘During the interim government, it was said that the law and order situation was deteriorating due to the absence of an elected government, but even after the elections, the situation has not improved, rather it has worsened. I don’t know how long the people will endure if this continues. Young people around the world are becoming politically aware.’
Referring to the 2024 mass uprising in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, Asif said that when the democratic process is obstructed, the youth are forced to take to the streets.
Addressing BNP chairman Tariq Rahman, Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of NCP’s northern region, said that Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal leaders and activists were once comrades-in-arms, but if they try to suppress the political movement in a terrorist manner like Chhatra League-Youth League, then their fate will be worse. In Bangladesh of the future, no political party organization or law enforcement force will be allowed to suppress other opinions and parties.
Sargis Alam said, ‘If we step back, stop talking after the July coup, those who come to power in the future will become even bigger dictatorships. That opportunity cannot be given to anyone else. The aspirations of the July coup have not yet been fulfilled. So the struggle of the movement is not over. BNP is deceiving the people on the issue of July charter, referendum and independence of the judiciary.’
NCP joint convener Ali Ahsan presided over the event. The program was conducted by the party’s joint member secretary Shahreen Ira.
