Jamaat’s walkout at the end of the parliament session

The opposition party staged a walkout at the end of the ongoing session of the Thirteenth National Parliament on Sunday. Local government minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was the last speaker in the budget discussion today.

Jamaat-e-Islami member of parliament Najibur Rahman told reporters that they have walked out of the parliament due to giving less time to the opposition party, more time to the government party, not giving the copy of the bill in advance, and not giving the point of order.

After Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s speech, two bills were raised as supplementary agenda. The two bills are—’Bangladesh Medical University (Amendment) Act and Public Examination (Offences) (Amendment) Bill.

The opposition party objected to the raising of the bill as two bills were brought without prior notice. However, Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal said that time has been waived. Later the Bill was sent to the Parliamentary Committee for examination and report.

After raising the bill, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Shahjahan Chowdhury asked for the floor on the point of order. Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal said that it is not possible for him to take a point of order at the moment. Now there is a statement in Rule 300. He called upon Mirza Fakhrul to give a statement.

Then Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘There is good news for you.’ The Deputy Speaker said, ‘Let the statement be, then. You get so impatient!’

At this time, members of the opposition party can be heard saying, ‘I walked out.’ Saying this, they left the parliament room.

Later, Mirza Fakhrul said that he will make a statement tomorrow. The Deputy Speaker then adjourned the meeting.
