Information advisor's statement is anti-political: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the political parties are trying to prove the failure of the government. He said, 'I don't know in what context he said this. His statement is anti-political and I don't expect them to make such a statement. I don't know for what purpose he said it.'

He said these things to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after returning from the UK today.

Mirza Fakhrul said, 'Political parties have always supported this interim government. There is one objective to support, which is to restore democracy.'

Stating that the visit to London went well, he said, 'The purpose of the visit to London was to have a meeting with the Acting Chairman (Tareq Rahman). A meeting was held with expatriate Bangladeshis and BNP leaders and workers in London, discussions took place, and it was fruitful.'

When asked what message BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman gave, Fakhrul said,

Acting Chairman urged everyone to be patient. He said – a victory has been announced. Patience is required to make this victory fruitful.'

When asked when Tariq Rahman will return to the country, he said, 'When he has the opportunity, he will come when the litigations are over.'

Regarding elections and reforms, BNP Secretary General said, 'The idea that BNP is prioritizing elections and not reforms is wrong. BNP proposed reforms 2 years ago. Elections should be held after completing the minimum reforms.

He said, 'It is challenging to deal with the problems that have arisen in Bangladesh without an elected government.'

Regarding the Bangladesh-India crisis, he said, 'India-Bangladesh crisis should be resolved through dialogue.'
