In Montreal, the presence of a robin from Europe surprises and attracts crowds

In the winter calm of Montreal, in the middle of a residential neighborhood, the corner of Rougemont and Dubuisson streets suddenly became the center of all attention. Between two piles of snow, a group of photographers set up daily in front of a hedge, like real paparazzi. Fame? A familiar robin whose presence in Canada is observed for the very first time.

Since he was seen by a resident of the neighborhood, and reported Thursday January 8 on a site well known to ornithologists, crowds converge on Montreal. “There were at least 150 people here the weekend of January 10-11,” says Maurice Gauvin, armed with a camera and member of the Protection of Birds of Quebec association. “I drove four hours from Ontario”tells us alongside Monique Grenier, retired, who came to admire this solitary bird. According to testimonies collected on site from regulars of the place, some would have traveled thousands of kilometers, from California or Michigan, motivated by the observation of an extremely rare ornithological phenomenon.
