Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) Joint Convener and Deputy Chief of Reform Implementation Committee Sarwar Tushar demanded the arrest of those involved in the attack on Shah Ali Shrine in Mirpur of the capital. He said, even though the political identity of the criminals is clear, the word ‘mob’ is being used to hide them. In this way, the government will not be able to avoid the responsibility by putting ‘Udor Pindi Budhor Garke’.
He said this while visiting Shah Ali Shrine as a member of the NCP delegation on Saturday afternoon.
The NCP leader demanded the formation of an ‘impartial commission of inquiry’ for a fair investigation into the attacks on shrines in the last two years. Sarwar Tushar also said that the political identity of those involved in the attack on various shrines including Philip Nagar in Kushtia is clear. Despite the evidence of the involvement of government party leaders in the Philipnagar incident, no action was taken against them.
They visited the shrine as well as spoke to the victims and listened to their accounts of the incident. Later, the NCP leaders met the officer-in-charge of Shah Ali Police Station and demanded that those involved in the attack be brought to book quickly.
The delegation led by Sarwar Tushar included- NCP joint member secretary Faridul Haque, Pritam Dash, Humaira Noor, Tarek Reza of Dharma and Sampriti Cell, Mazharul Islam Fakir of Labor Shakti, Central Member Fahim Khan Pathan, Zayed Bin Nasser, Lutfar Rahman Nayan of Yuba Shakti, Tahmina Sharmin Yuthi of National Women’s Shakti, Kazi Saiful Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan North, Chief Coordinator of Shah Ali Police Station Shafiqul Islam Rana and others.
Apart from this, a statement was also given today from the office of NCP condemning the attack on the shrine.
The statement said such attacks not only indicate a breakdown in law and order, but are also dangerous for social harmony, coexistence and public safety. Violence and attacks based on any differences or practices can never be acceptable.
It further said, we call upon people of all classes and professions to maintain calm, restraint and harmony. The government and the people have to play a responsible role in protecting the communal harmony and social stability of Bangladesh.
