Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman expressed his commitment to establish accountability at every level of the society. He said, we want to create an environment of accountability in the country. Accountability is our main aim and objective as a political party. Only the Prime Minister, Minister, MPs will be accountable? no Accountable at every level. As a member of the Union Parishad will be accountable, a Prime Minister will also be accountable. Accountability must be held at every level of the public and private sectors.
He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the Faridpur divisional day-long workshop as part of the '31-point implementation and public involvement' program announced by BNP on Saturday (December 7). Tariq Rahman joined virtually from London in this workshop organized in the auditorium hall room of Sadar Upazila Parishad from 10 am. Faridpur, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur and Gopalganj district BNP leaders participated in the workshop.
Tariq Rahman participated in the question and answer session of the participants for an hour from 4 pm. Later he addressed everyone.
Addressing the activists, he said, 'There was no accountability during the runaway dictatorship government. If there was accountability in the country, then Tk 2 thousand crores would not have been smuggled from Faridpur.'
He said, 'We want to create such a stage in the health sector that the people of the country can get treatment in the country. Students will get their fair education. I want to establish the rule of law. A lot can be done if only accountability is established. To establish this accountability we need to turn around and go back. As people of different classes united and forced the dictatorship to flee. In the same way, everyone should be united in establishing the rights of the people of the country. Through which we can gradually start the work of building our desired Bangladesh.
Instructing the leaders and activists to keep the people's trust in BNP, he said, 'If you sit at home because people have trust in BNP, that trust will slowly erode. So, the first condition is to trust the people and to keep the trust we have to get up and running according to the expectations of the people. Some of us are doing something wrong, they have to correct themselves from that mistake. Or to warn them. We need to be tougher in particular areas. It should be remembered that the capital of the political party is the trust of the people. If this capital is lost, then everything will be lost.'
Referring to the country's reforms, he said, 'I have seen in the last two-three months, different people are talking about different reforms. The reforms they are talking about are within our 31 points. They are saying the same thing that we have said. BNP presented these points at a time when we knew that the dictatorship would fall. Maybe I didn't know the right time. This is the biggest proof that we want to work for the people of the country.'
The party's organizing secretary (Faridpur division) Shama Obaid presided over the event. Earlier this day-long workshop was held. BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's advisor Ismail Zabiullah spoke as the main speaker in the workshop.
Co-organizing secretary Khandaker Maskur Rahman Masuk was present at this time. Selimuzzaman Salim, Training Affairs Secretary ABM Mosharraf Hossain, Assistant Relief and Rehabilitation Secretary Advocate Newaz Halima Arli, Faridpur District BNP Convener Advocate Modaresh Ali Icha, Member Secretary AK Kibria Swapan and Joint Convenor Syed Zulfikar Hossain Jewel and others.
