Najibur Rahman, the former chief secretary to the prime minister and former chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has been sent to jail after remand in the case of murder of BNP activist Maqbool. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate today Wednesday. Saifuzzaman gave this order to be sent to prison.
After the remand, Najibur Rahman was produced by the police in the court on Wednesday afternoon. After that, DB Police SI Ferdous Alam requested to keep him in jail until the investigation of the case is over. Following the plea, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.
Earlier, after the hearing on December 18, the court granted Najibur Rahman a three-day remand in this case. He was later remanded from jail.
According to the allegation in the Maqbul murder case, BNP announced a one-stage demand collection program on December 10, 2022. On December 7 of that year, Harun Or Rashid, Mehedi Hasan and Biplab Kumar of the DB Police raided the Nayapaltan office of BNP. At that time they ransacked the office. Attacked thousands of activists who were next to the office. A worker named Maqbul Hossain was shot and died.
In this incident, on September 30, Mahfuzur Rahman became the plaintiff and filed a case against 256 people including Sheikh Hasina.
Metropolitan Detective Police arrested Najibur from Dhaka on the night of October 6. The next day he was produced in jail and remanded in the murder case. He was subsequently arrested in several other cases.
