The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has decided to install VAT machines or Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFD) in all jewelery shops in 18 districts including Dhaka to increase revenue collection. For this, on Sunday (January 19), the second secretary of Information Technology and Project Planning Department of NBR said. Shahadat Jamil has asked the jewelers association for the list of jewelery establishments in these areas in a letter.
In the letter, a list of area markets and area wise shops in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Savar, Gazipur, Mymensingh, Netrakona, Kishoreganj, Sherpur, Tangail, Jamalpur, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Khagrachari and Rangamati districts has been requested. If it is not possible to give the complete list at once, the second secretary requested to give it partially.
It is known that at the beginning of this month, NBR discussed the establishment of EFD with the leaders of jewelers association. There, the leaders of the association highlighted various problems including VAT, baggage rule, gold import in the jewelery sector. At the same time, they said that there are many companies in the jewelery sector, which do not have VAT registration. Leaders of the jewelers' association commented that if unregistered companies are registered and EFDs are set up in all companies and other problems are solved rationally, the revenue of the government will increase.
In that meeting, NBR officials said that EFD machines will be installed in all jewelery establishments in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Savar, Gazipur, Mymensingh, Netrakona, Kishoreganj, Sherpur, Tangail, Jamalpur, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Khagrachari and Rangamati areas. .
NBR's letter also said that an awareness online meeting will be held with stakeholders on January 23 regarding the installation of EFD machines in jewelery establishments.
