The police filed a charge sheet in the court against two accused in the case of rape and murder of Ramisa Akhtar, a seven-year-old child of Pallabir, Dhaka. The case was then ordered to be referred to the Child Violence Prevention Tribunal for trial. Later, the judge of that tribunal fixed the date of hearing on June 1 after taking into account the charge sheet.
The investigating officer filed the chargesheet shortly after 3:30 pm on Sunday. The Metropolitan Court forwarded the charge sheet to the concerned Child Violence Prevention Tribunal.
The judge of that court then took cognizance of the charge sheet and fixed the date of hearing on June 1. If the charge sheet is accepted after the hearing, the judicial proceedings will begin.
Earlier, Sohel Rana and his wife Rupa Akhtar, the main accused in this case, were brought to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka around 11:30 am.
Earlier, in an event at the Secretariat, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that judicial work will be completed within five to seven days after the charge sheet is filed.
In the charge sheet, Sohail Rana has been made the main accused in this rape and murder case. His wife Swapna Akhtar has been accused as his accomplice.
After the hearing in the court, the lawyer of the state, Omar Farooq Farooqui, said, “This case is a very important case. The prosecution has sought maximum punishment for the accused. The court took cognizance of the complaint after the hearing. Next June 1, the hearing will be held to frame the charges in this case.
There was no lawyer for the accused. Earlier, the Dhaka Bar Association had announced that no one would stand for the accused.
The government has appointed Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Azizur Rahman Dulu as Special Public Prosecutor (Special PP) to speed up the judicial process of this case on Saturday.
After being detained earlier, the main accused Sohail Rana has confessed his guilt under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the courtroom of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The DNA, autopsy and viscera report of the case were handed over to the investigating officer by the CID on Saturday.
Prime Minister Tariq Rahman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad visited Ramisa’s house on the night of 21st May.
On that day, the Home Minister said that the charge sheet will be filed in the court by Sunday. At the same time, Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Asaduzzaman said, if it is possible to file the charge sheet before Eid, the judicial proceedings can be started immediately after Eid.
On the morning of May 19, Ramisa’s dead body was recovered in a bloody and dismembered state from a room in a flat next to their house in Pallabir’s Mirpur-11 area.
The day after the incident, the father of the deceased child, Abdul Hannan Molla, filed a case at the Pallabi police station as the plaintiff, and the police arrested Sohel Rana and his wife.
After this brutal murder and rape incident, various protests are going on across the country. Different organizations and people from different professions are carrying out different programs. They have been demanding a fair investigation and speedy trial of his incident.

Judgment in five to seven days: Home Minister
Attending a function at the Secretariat on Sunday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed answered various questions from journalists about the Ramisa murder incident.
He said this at the ‘BSRF Dialogue’ organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum or BSRF.
The Home Minister said, ‘The accused who escaped after raping and killing Ramisa was arrested within seven hours. The accused gave a confessional statement in court within a day. His wife has also been arrested as an accomplice’.
He said, “We quickly got the DNA test done with the permission of the court. The test took three days, and it was completed within three days. The report was submitted yesterday afternoon. We have already received the postmortem report.”
The Home Minister said, “The work of compiling and compiling the charge sheet was completed by last night”.
Mr. Ahmad said, “The chief justice is thinking of canceling the special court leave to ensure speedy trial of the case even though the court is on leave; this is being dealt with by the law ministry”.
He said, “We have appointed a special PP to deal with this case only. All things considered, we expect the chargesheet to be filed today and the trial will be concluded in five to seven days.”
The home minister said, “The government is trying to arrest the accused quickly in the cases of torture and rape. No exemption will be given in this regard.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Ahmad said, “As a government, we are ensuring the legal system and the justice system. We have given the most attention here that the accused or criminals are arrested as soon as possible. We have been successful in every case in these three months. And in the future, we will not let the accused or criminals in any such heinous crime.”
