BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, 'Honorable Prime Minister, Honorable Speaker, cannot we exclude this honorable word?
“I know why I know, from this honorable thing, but all autocracy is born.” Whatever we become, we go to that different world.
He said this while addressing a national debate competition titled 'Civil Discourse National 2021: Voice of Democracy- Rithinking Bangladesh' at Abdul Karim Sahityabishad Auditorium of Bangla Academy on Tuesday (July 7th). The competition organized the Dhaka College Debating Society and the platform 'The Bangladesh Dialog'.
Commenting that a healthy political culture of a country cannot be developed without the practice of democracy, BNP Secretary -General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that dissent should not be suppressed, but full opportunity for its publication should be ensured. He also hoped that the future of Bangladesh will be developed by the hands of the youth.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The beauty of democracy is the beauty of debate and opinion. But being out of the end means hostility-this attitude has to come out of this attitude.
He also said, “We believe in Liberal Democracy. As I have the right to express my opinion, you have it. It is important to protect this right for the country. Democracy becomes helpless if there is no tolerance and respect for dissent.”
Speaking to the youth, the BNP secretary general said, “Many are getting frustrated – I think nothing will happen with Bangladesh. But I am optimistic. I believe that these young people will one day build a new Bangladesh.”
He also expressed concern over the politics of the youth. “A survey found that only 5.7 percent of the youth of Bangladesh are interested in politics. It is not a good message at all. Leadership comes from politics – the responsibility of building a country is in the hands of that leadership.”
On the lack of democracy, he said, “The misfortune of Bangladesh is not a long -term practice of democracy here. We have to get out of this place of misery. If we do politics today, if they show the courage to express free, then interest will return to the youth.”
During the meeting, he also became alert with the exaggeration of politicians. He said, “To be a minister in our country, he should go into a different world. Bamby, salute, car fleet – these are gradually forms of dictatorship. The word 'honorable' also makes people a dictator.”
Mirza Fakhrul also said that the center and the edges were reduced. According to him, “As long as the gap with Dhaka is, real development and political progress is not possible. This distance should be reduced to eliminate discrimination in new Bangladesh.”
Also present on the occasion were Dhaka College Principal AKM Elias, Adcom Holding Limited Managing Director Nazim Farhan Chowdhury, Barrister Rasna Imam, BNP Foreign Staff Committee member Ishrafi Khasru.
According to the organizer organization, the competition held on July 7 and 7, a total of six controversies from school and college level in different regions of the country participated.
