BNP candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi’s writ to regain candidacy


Manjurul Ahsan Munshi, the candidate of BNP in Comilla-4 constituency has filed a writ in the High Court to regain his candidature. He challenged the validity of the decision of the Election Commission by canceling the nomination papers and filed this writ in the relevant branch of the High Court on Monday.

Manjurul Ahsan Munsi’s lawyer Hamidul Misbah said, ‘EC’s January 17 decision has been postponed in the application. Along with that, the decision given by the returning officer has been requested to be upheld by declaring the nomination paper valid.

Earlier, the High Court had suspended the list of defaulters in the name of Manjurul Ahsan Munsi, the nominated candidate of BNP in Comilla-4 seat. So that he is declared as a valid candidate. However, the High Court’s order was suspended for eight weeks on January 8 by the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division.

Manjurul Ahsan Munshi appealed to the Appellate Division to revoke the stay of the Chamber Court. However, after the hearing, the chamber court upheld the stay on the order given by the High Court on January 14. He also directed the High Court to settle the rule within two weeks.

Meanwhile, Jatiya Nagrik Party candidate Hasnat Abdullah appealed to the EC against the decision of the Returning Officer. Manjurul Ahsan Munsi’s nomination paper was declared invalid on January 17 after the hearing on the charge of concealing the information of the defaulter. Due to which this BNP candidate approached the High Court again to regain his candidature.
