Apple's new outline has been revealed online. It describes the company's future plans for various iPad and MacBook models. According to that outline, foldable iPads and MacBooks could hit the market in 2028.
The outline was published by the '@Jukanlosreve' account on social media X. Technology research firm Amida was the source of this outline. Outline information has started from 2022. Some of these data are implemented in 2022 and 2024. The outline states that the 2024 iPad Pro will have LCD-to-OLED panels on its 11-inch and 13-inch models, which has materialized. These include 'promotion displays', with refresh rates ranging from 10 Hz to 120 Hz.
Apple has kept an option for customers even though the iPad Pro models have increased in price for OLED. Therefore, Apple has brought the iPad Air 12.9 inch model to the market, which is much like the iPad Pro model with LCD display. The refresh rate of these iPad Air models is 60 Hz. According to this outline, the 2026 iPad mini will be OLED.
The new iPad mini will arrive in 2026, with an 8.4-inch hybrid OLED panel display. The display will have a single RGB layer and will have a refresh rate of 60 Hz.
In addition, the display size of MacBook Pro models in 2026 will be slightly increased. The screen size of the 14.2-inch and 16.2-inch MacBook Pro models will change to 14.3-inch and 16.3-inch. These screens will be converted from LCD to hybrid OLED panels and will have a punch hole display with a 10 Hz to 120 Hz refresh rate.
The iPad Air will also switch from LCD to OLED panels in 2027, and its 11-inch and 13-inch screens will feature hybrid OLED panels, with a 60Hz refresh rate with a single RGB layer.
Foldable iPad and MacBook will arrive in 2028. The iPad Pro will return later that year, with 11-inch and 13-inch screens on hybrid OLED panels, featuring TSP on TFT display technology and a polarizer-free design. Without a polarizer, the display will be brighter, produce accurate colors, and consume less power. In addition, the MacBook Air will come with 13.8-inch and 15.5-inch hybrid OLED panels, which will be larger than the previous 13.6-inch and 15.4-inch LCD displays.
The most surprising thing is that Apple may unveil an 18.8-inch foldable iPad or MacBook in 2028. The device will have a hybrid OLED display, where tandem technology will be used and it will be LTPO TFT and TSP on TFT technology without polarizer.
OLED panels are able to generate their own light, so they are more energy efficient than LCD panels. Pixels turn off when displaying dark or black colors, thereby increasing battery life. In addition, OLED displays show true blacks and high contrast.
