Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said that slum dwellers will not be allowed to be evicted through arson and terror. Slum dwellers should be evicted after ensuring rehabilitation and proper compensation.
He said this during a press briefing after visiting the fire-affected area in Baunia Dam slum of Kalshi in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
Asif Mahmud said, there is no chance to dismiss the fear of political conspiracy behind the fire in Kalshi Basti. At this time, he demanded a fair investigation into the fire incident in Kalshi.
Asif said that slum dwellers will not be allowed to evict through fire and terror. Slum dwellers should be evicted through rehabilitation and compensation. He also questioned whether this fire was set due to the anger of the incident surrounding the eviction operation or not.
During slum visits, Asif Mahmood spoke to the affected people, listened to their plight and inquired about the injured.
At this time, he emphasized on quick rehabilitation, emergency relief assistance and long-term planning for the affected families, so that the victims can quickly return to normal life. He also urged the relevant authorities to ensure urgent assistance.
During the visit, NCP’s Central Joint Convener and Dhaka Metropolitan North Convener Ariful Islam Adeeb were present along with local leaders and workers of the party.
