Change in India's foreign policy has become imperative: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that it is necessary to change India's foreign policy to keep pace with the changing world politics. Jaishankar said this at the opening ceremony of a new periodical on international politics named 'India's World' in New Delhi on Sunday (December 15).

Jaishankar said, 'We (India's) foreign policy needs to be changed. When we talk about a change in foreign policy, when we talk about shaping a post-Nehru foreign policy, this change should not be seen as a political attack.'

Indian media Deccan Herald reported this news in a report.

Noting that India is increasingly becoming a 'significant role player' in international politics, Jaishankar said the number of Indian expatriate workers abroad “will increase dramatically” in the coming years. At the international level we are going to see an explosion of mobility.'

Regarding how India's foreign policy should be, Jaishankar said, 'I think our future foreign policy will be thinking big, thinking long-term and thinking modernly.'

India's foreign minister also said, 'For various reasons we followed a “shrouded” foreign policy for so long. That day is no more. India has long since left those days behind.'
