Constitution can be amended through legal process with everyone's opinion: Kamal Hossain


The head of the constitution drafting committee of 72 commented that the constitution can be amended in the legal process with consensus, prominent lawyer Dr. Kamal Hossain.

He said this while addressing a discussion meeting on the occasion of Constitution Day on November 4, 1972 at the Supreme Court Bar Association Auditorium on Monday (November 4). Bangladesh Democratic Lawyers Association organized this discussion meeting. Professor Dr. participated in the discussion under the chairmanship of senior lawyer Subrata Chowdhury, president of the association. Syed Anwar Hossain, Supreme Court Bar President Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, constitutional expert Dr. Shahdeen Malik and others.

Dr. According to Kamal Hossain, after the recent events we have seen – we need to strengthen our legal and institutional safeguards. We must ensure an independent judiciary. Fair election process should be maintained. Transparency should be brought at all levels. Our Constitution should stand as a shield against tyranny. Under whose protection no citizen shall live in fear of injustice and injustice.

He said, we have to work with the new generation. The aspirations of the people of the country should be prioritized. A democratic, just, and constitution should stand as a bulwark against tyranny. In today's context, our constitution needs to be reconsidered. We have to ensure that this constitution does not give any opportunity to tyranny.

Dr. Kamal Hossain also said, I started the work of protecting people's rights. This painful experience has made it clear to us that the work of protecting the constitutional rights of the people of Bangladesh is not over yet. He said that this constitution was adopted as the foundation of independent Bangladesh on November 4, 1972. The foundation of this constitution was— our sacrifice and collective aspiration. The ideological basis of this constitution was nationalism, socialism, democracy and secularism.

A democratic, just and egalitarian Bangladesh should be built. We have to ensure a non-discrimination Bangladesh. Discrimination on the basis of gender, religion, ethnicity, political or any other identity shall not be allowed. We have to do all the constitutional reforms keeping this goal in mind.

He also said, as lawyers and conscious civil society of Bangladesh, you should participate in this reform process. Share your opinion with the general public. And continue efforts to ensure that the views of the general public are reflected in the amendment process. Become a symbol of strength for the constitution.'

He said, people have to be vigilant to protect the constitutional rule. The people own the power, the owners have many responsibilities. Every citizen should play the role of watchman.

Dr. Shahdeen Malik said, in 52 years, we have changed the government system 12 times. From 1971 to 1982 we changed the government system 5 times. He said, this ousted government came to power in 2008. Since 2009, I have established an immortal multi-party parliamentary dictatorship. Some African countries have Dictatorship after Parliament.

Subrata Chowdhury said, don't try to erase national history. Then you will be deleted. He said to the interim government, he has done 10 reform commissions, he has done reforms. But how the judges were appointed before the policy was made. With 15 judges out of court, these should have answers.
