Arab Finance: Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, participated in a discussion session on “Climate risks», within the activities of the annual conference “The Path to Net Zero Emissions”, organized by the Chapter Zero Egypt Foundation, and it addresses the path towards achieving sustainability and how companies can deal with the opportunities and challenges of climate risks, as well as adopting the principles of climate governance in their strategies and learning about the financing opportunities available to chairmen and members of boards. Al-Mashat explained that successive climate conferences emphasized the importance of partnership between various relevant parties to confront climate change, noting that Egypt demonstrated during its hosting of the COP27 conference the importance of working with a wide range of relevant parties, to address the three basic pillars of adaptation, mitigation, and financing. Fair, as these principles constitute an essential part of climate strategies in Egypt, so it was important to work to integrate these priorities not only into government policies, but also into private sector strategies. The Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation explained that, in line with these efforts, Egypt launched its National Climate Change Strategy 2050 before the COP27 conference, as this strategy is a national roadmap that directs us towards achieving our Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), in line with the Paris Agreement.

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat reviewed the Ministry’s pivotal role in enhancing cooperation between the ministries and concerned bodies to achieve the integration of the climate dimension into national planning frameworks, explaining that this role comes within the framework of the Ministry’s strategic direction after merging the Ministries of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, as its comprehensive responsibilities in developing and following up Economic and social development plans and programs at various stages of time, as well as working to achieve sustainable development goals.

She pointed to Egypt's participation in the World Conference on Financing for Development scheduled to be held in Seville next June, and its importance in discussing pressing issues at the level of various development efforts, stressing the necessity of expanding financing for development and climate action to support emerging countries.
