6 devices including two iPhones have been canceled by Apple


Apple has listed two older iPhone models and four smartwatch models as obsolete. The company has listed them as vintage and obsolete products. The 2018 iPhone XS Max and the 2015 iPhone 6S Plus are now on the list of vintage products. Also, Apple Watch Series 2 is now an obsolete product.

However, the iPhone 6s Plus 32GB storage model was already listed as 'obsolete'.

Vintage Apple products

According to Apple's support page, 'When Apple stops distributing a product for sale and the product is more than 5 years old and less than 7 years old, it is considered a vintage product. Currently the following iPhone models are listed as Apple Vintage products—

  • iPhone 4 (8GB)
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 8 Red
  • iPhone 8 Plus Red
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XS Max

What are Apple Obsolete Products?

According to the Apple support page, products become obsolete when Apple stops supplying them for sale and that is more than 7 years ago. Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products and service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products.

However, there are special rules for Mac laptops. They can be eligible for battery replacement or repair for up to 10 years. But it depends on the availability of required parts.

Apple Watch Series 2 models that are now 'obsolete'

Four models of the Apple Watch Series 2 are now considered obsolete. These are –

  • Apple Watch Series 2, Aluminum (2nd Gen), 38mm
  • Apple Watch Series 2, Aluminum (2nd Gen), 42mm
  • Apple Watch Series 2, Stainless Steel (2nd Generation), 38mm
  • Apple Watch Series 2, Stainless Steel (2nd Generation), 42mm
