South Africa has no time to catch its breath. The Proteas will have to jump in for the Pakistan series before the Sri Lanka series ends. South Africa will have to play the T20 series against Pakistan without star cricketers.
South Africa today announced a 15-member squad for the three-match T20 series against Pakistan. Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Tristan Stubbs rested from Pakistan series. Because they are in the team for the Test series against Sri Lanka. The South Africa-Sri Lanka second Test starts tomorrow in Port Elizabeth. The test will end on December 9 after five days. The next day (December 10) the South Africa-Pakistan three-match T20I series begins in Durban.
Heinrich Klaasen will lead the T20 series against Pakistan in the absence of Markram. Anrich Narakia and Tabreiz Shamsi are returning to international cricket after five months with this series. Both last played for South Africa in the T20 World Cup final against India in Barbados on June 29 this year. Besides, Ryan Rickelton, Koena Mafaka, Mathew Britzke – these three cricketers will join the Pakistan series team after the Test series against the Lankans. Tabreiz Shamsi is currently playing for Lahore Qalandars in the Global Super League.
However, South Africa received bad news before the series against Pakistan. Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi two star pacers will not be able to play any match in the Pakistan series. The remaining two T20 matches of the two-team series will be played on December 13 and 14. The venues for the last two T20s are in Centurion and Johannesburg. The South Africa-Pakistan three ODI series will be held from December 17 to 22. After the limited overs cricket, the two teams will play a two-match Test series. The series is part of the 2023-25 ICC Test Championship cycle.
