The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the Test series against the West Indies with Nazmul Hossain Shanto as the captain. However, within 24 hours of the announcement of the team, BCB announced that Shanto has been dropped from the Test series. Today they said that Shahadat Hossain Dipu is going to tour West Indies as an alternative to Shanta.
Shant injured his left groin while fielding in the second ODI of the series against Afghanistan in Sharjah. Because of this, he could not play in the series deciding third ODI yesterday.
Dipur made his Test debut against New Zealand in November last year. He has played 4 Tests so far. Scored 118 runs at an average of 14.75. He last played a Test in March this year, against Sri Lanka.
Dipu (116) also got a great century in the fourth round of the National Cricket League. But the season is not going well for them. He got out three times in 8 innings before opening the run book.
The Bangladesh-West Indies two-match Test series is starting on November 22. The second and final Test will begin in Jamaica on November 30. Then the two teams will play three ODIs and T20Is each.
Regarding Shantar's injury, BCB senior doctor Debashish Chowdhury said yesterday, 'Shantar underwent MRI yesterday (the day after) in Sharjah. Got the team physio report. A scan revealed a grade two injury. Now he has to rest and rehabilitate. The third ODI against Afghanistan and the Test series against the West Indies, he is nowhere to be found. I will assess his condition after two weeks. Will continue the rehabilitation process after returning home from the UAE.'
