The ICC meeting was postponed yesterday. As a result, no decision has been made regarding the ICC Champions Trophy even today. The earlier uncertainty about the tournament remained.
Earlier, the ICC meeting was postponed on December 5. However, with the new date for the World Cricket Governing Body meeting, it was expected that a decision on the Champions Trophy would be taken at the next meeting. But like before, there was no meeting, no decision was reached. In between, however, news came out that Pakistan agreed to host the tournament in a hybrid model. Out of total 15 matches of the tournament, 5 will be played outside Pakistan in UAE. Which includes India's 3 matches in group stage, semi-final and final.
Pakistan, however, has agreed to host the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model subject to conditions. One of their conditions was that in the next few years, the ICC's global tournaments should also be held in the hybrid model, so that Pakistan can play in the tournament instead of going to India. But India did not respond to such conditions of Pakistan. So the uncertainty about the Champions Trophy is not over.
Quoting Pakistan's Interior Minister and Chairman of the Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, 241 NewsHD channel reported the postponement of the ICC meeting. In response to a question while talking to the media in Lahore, the PCB chairman said, “Our efforts are to arrive at a decision which will be beneficial for both Pakistan and international cricket.”
