What amount of rice will be bought from the farmer, said the government


The government will collect 3 lakh 50 thousand metric tons of paddy, 5 lakh 50 thousand metric tons of boiled rice, 1 lakh metric tons of Atap rice during Amon season. The price of paddy will be bought at Tk 33 per kg, parboiled rice at Tk 47 per kg and atap rice at Tk 46 per kg.

The period for purchase of boiled rice and paddy is from 17th November to 28th February. Atap rice will be purchased between November 17 and March 10.

These decisions have been taken in the meeting of food planning and distribution committee. Today Wednesday (November 6) in the meeting held in the Cabinet Division meeting room Finance and Trade Advisor Dr. Saleh Uddin presided.

Import of rice

After the meeting, Food Secretary Masudur Rahman told reporters that the government has decided to import rice to keep the price of rice affordable in the market. 5 lakh metric tons of rice will be imported. Of this, 3 lakh metric tons will be imported by the government. The remaining 2 lakh metric tons will come privately. These rice will come from India, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia as price variation.

He said that since the price of paddy has increased by 2 to 3 taka compared to the last time, the price of rice procurement has also been considered higher this time. The government is emphasizing on OMS, food friendly programs to control the rice market.

Delivery of goods

The finance and trade adviser said, to keep supply in the market, a decision has been taken to import rice, sugar, fertilizer and wheat. Besides, the government will import chickpeas, sugar, oil and dates ahead of Ramadan so that the prices are at a bearable level by maintaining the supply in the market.

He said that the interim government is working to maintain the supply of daily commodities including fish, meat, milk, eggs. Monitoring has been strengthened to meet the shortage of supply of these products in the market.
