Hunter Biden was scheduled to be sentenced this month for tax evasion and illegal gun purchase.
US President Joe Biden has pardoned his son Hunter Biden. According to the New York Times, he was facing punishment for illegal gun possession and tax evasion.
Biden issued a statement saying-
From the day I took office, I have said that I will not interfere in the decisions of the Justice Department. I have kept this promise but I saw that my son was being targeted. He was wrongly prosecuted.
Biden said that he has full faith in law and order but politics has tainted it. This is a failure of the justice system. The President said that any sensible person who has followed Hunter's case would know that he was targeted only because he is my son.
The President said that in trying to break Hunter, some people tried to break him. This doesn't stop now, so he had to use his powers. The American people will understand why a father and President took this decision.

What is the matter of buying a gun illegally?
Hunter withheld information when purchasing a gun in October 2018. Hunter did not reveal that he was addicted to drugs. According to law, a drug user cannot possess a gun. In June 2024, Hunter was found guilty in an illegal gun case.
Hunter was scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 4 in Delaware court. He could have been sentenced to a maximum of 25 years in jail in this case, but according to law experts, he was going to be sentenced to 12 to 16 months.
Just 2 days before the sentencing, father Biden used his presidential powers to save his son. Before Hunter was found guilty in June, Biden had said he would never forgive his son if he was found guilty.
What is Hunter's tax evasion case Pleaded guilty to 9 cases of tax evasion in September 2024. Willfully did not pay taxes on time between 2016-2019. Tax evasion of 14 lakh dollars (11.84 crores) in these 4 years. Used this money on drugs, sex workers and debauchery.
After pleading guilty, Hunter could have faced a maximum sentence of 15 years. He was scheduled to be sentenced in California on December 16 and may have to pay a fine of around Rs 11 crore. But 14 days before the sentencing, the US President pardoned the son.
Hunter Biden wrote on social media after receiving forgiveness from the President's father-
I have admitted my mistakes and taken responsibility for them. Because of these my family had to be publicly humiliated and embarrassed. I will never take this apology lightly.
