Urea fertilizer worth 140 crores will be bought from Qatar


The government will import 30,000 tons of urea fertilizer from Qatar at a cost of 140,280,000 taka. The government's decision was approved by the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement.

On Wednesday (November 6), Finance and Trade Advisor Dr. The advisory council committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Saleh Uddin Ahmed. The meeting approved the import of urea fertilizer from Qatar.

According to the sources of the meeting, the Ministry of Industry came up with a proposal to import 30 thousand metric tons of urea fertilizer from Muntajat in Qatar. The Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement has scrutinized the proposal and approved it.

The price of urea fertilizer per metric ton is fixed at 389.67 USD. It will cost 140 crore 28 lakh 12 thousand taka in Bangladeshi currency to import 30 thousand metric tons of urea fertilizer.

In terms of another proposal, the import of 30 thousand metric tons (more than 10 percent) of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Sabiq Agri-Nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia was approved for 1 crore 14 lakh 80 thousand 100 US dollars. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 137 crore 76 lakh 12 thousand taka. The price per metric ton is estimated at 382.67 USD.

Besides, approval was given to buy 30 thousand metric tons of bagged granular urea fertilizer from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (Kafco) for 1 crore 9 lakh 61 thousand 250 US dollars. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 131 crore 53 lakh 50 thousand taka. In this case, the price per metric ton is estimated at 365.375 USD.
