UNRWA continues to supply relief despite Israeli sanctions

The UN Palestinian Refugee Organization (UNRWA) continues humanitarian activities in Gaza, despite the Israeli sanctions and hostile behavior. This was stated by the company on Friday (January 5th) at a press conference in Geneva. The British message was reported by Reuters.

At a press conference in Geneva, UNRWA's communications director Juliet Toma said, “We are continuing the service.” UNRWA is still the mainstay of international humanitarian assistance in Gaza. Our staff is still in Gaza and can carry a truck carrying food and emergency.

According to the Israeli decision taken in October, the operation of UNRWA from Israeli territory has been banned from January 5 and the Israeli authorities have also stopped contact with the company.

Britain, France and Germany expressed concern over Israeli action. Humanitarian support agencies say the ban will have a great impact on the flow of relief in Gaza, as relief and staff have to use Israeli territory to enter Palestinian territory.

Toma warned that the Israeli-Hamas ceasefire agreement would be threatened if UNRWA activities were disrupted.

It is to be noted that thousands of Palestinian refugees living in East Jerusalem receive education, healthcare and other services through UNRWA.
