Broadcast Journalist Center (BJC) president and Mashranga TV news editor Rezwanul Haque Raza urged journalists to stay away from political affiliations. He said, ‘If the journalists can’t remove political affiliation, we can’t be united.’
He said these things at a media conference at the Krishibid Institution (KIB) auditorium in the capital on Saturday.
Rezwanul Haque said, ‘We must unite or unite. But the biggest obstacle to our unity is our political affiliation. Until we get rid of it, we can’t be one.’
This journalist leader said that even though journalists are united in view of an incident, they are divided within a few days due to political affiliation. In view of these words, Rezwanul Haque Raja said, ‘We saw after the murder of journalist Sagar-Rooney. After that murder, we all agreed, regardless of religion. But that unity was lost later.’
BJC president also said, ‘We claim to be neutral. But our union is a politically divided union. The political affiliation of each of the leaders of our organization.’
Rezwanul Haque said, ‘No government wants to see independent journalism or independent media. It is sad that the present government, which talks about new political settlement or reform of the state, is doing the same.’
The BJC president further said, ‘When a political party is in opposition, they consider the media as a friend. When they come to power, the media becomes their enemy. This trend has been going on for a long time.’
This Saturday morning at 10:17 AM, the mass gathering started with the national anthem. Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOWAB) and editors association Adira Parishad jointly organized the meeting.
Members of Nowab and Editor Council, Association of Television Channel Owners, Broadcast Journalists Center, Jatiya Press Club, Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union, Dhaka Journalists Union, Dhaka Reporters Unity, Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Economic Reporters Forum, Photojournalists Association, Crime Reporters Association and leaders of various journalist organizations and journalists and media editors working outside Dhaka participated in this meeting. took
Media representatives and columnists from different levels have also come to this event to stand together for responsible and courageous journalism. Journalists expressed their views with the aim of protecting the democratic environment and freedom of the media and ensuring the safety of journalists, upholding the professional status and rights of media workers.
