A video of oil theft from an oil tanker on the Jessore-Jhenaidah highway in broad daylight has gone viral on social media Facebook. In the 2 minute 22 second video, buckets of oil are being taken from the top of the lorry and taken to a nearby shop and a water-like liquid is being poured into the lorry in return.
According to the investigation, the incident took place on Tuesday (March 24) afternoon in Satmile area of ​​Jessore Sadar on Jessore-Jhenaidah highway. First, this scene of theft was caught on the mobile phone of journalist Arif Mollah of Kaliganj in Jhenaidah. The video went viral after he posted it on Facebook.
In the video, a fuel oil tanker with registration number Chuadanga-T0-0003 is seen parked on the side of the highway. A man on top of a lorry is unloading oil with a bucket and a shopkeeper named Ali Hossain standing below is taking the oil to his shop. The shopkeeper identified himself when asked by the journalist, but the person on the lorry refused to give his name.
Journalist Arif Molla, who captured the video, said that drivers and assistants regularly steal and sell oil on the way from Khulna depot to Chuadanga. On the basis of such information, we took this scene at Satmile area around 1 o’clock on Tuesday. They steal oil in 3-4 spots from Jessore to Kaliganj.
He said, when asked the name of the person on top of the car, he did not say his name. After inquiry, it is known that the name of the shopkeeper is Ali Hossain. For a long time he had been buying and selling stolen oil from cars running on the highway by setting up a shop on the side of the highway.
Ahmed Ali, UP member of that oil unloading union (Haibatpur), said that the shop is inside the empty field of the highway. They buy the stolen oil of various cars with the connivance of the driver’s helper. He alleged that the oil was later sold in various vehicles at retail price.
Jessore Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saffat Ara Saeed said, “I have seen the video of illegally stealing oil spread on Facebook. The matter is under investigation. Action will be taken against those involved after investigation.
However, when the number of shop owner Ali Hossain was contacted, his phone was found switched off.
