Iran has launched missile attacks on US military bases in several countries across the Gulf region after Israel and the United States attacked Tehran, the capital of Iran, Iran’s Fars news agency said.
Among the bases targeted are Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, the news agency reported.
News agency AFP reported that explosions were also heard in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, after Doha in Bahrain and Qatar.
The UAE state news agency reported today that one person was killed when a missile hit a residential area in the capital, Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is not in Tehran and has been moved to a safe place, Reuters reported, citing an official.
BBC Arabic reported that explosions were heard near Khamenei’s headquarters and the presidential palace in Tehran.
Earlier, Israel reported the attack by Iran. They refer to this as a “pre-planned attack”.
In a statement this morning, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a “special and permanent state of emergency” across Israel.
Soon after, Israel and Iran announced the closure of their airspace.

Israel then claimed that their goal was to destroy Iran’s nuclear program.
Among them is Fordo, a uranium enrichment facility hidden deep in Iran’s remote mountainous region that is crucial to Iran’s nuclear program.
According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, through these programs, Iran will soon be able to build a nuclear bomb.
Recently, US and Iranian officials sat in the third round of indirect talks in Geneva amid such threats by US President Donald Trump that Iran will be attacked if the nuclear agreement is not reached.

But in recent weeks, the US has deployed thousands of troops to the region. What Trump has described as an “armada.”
There are two aircraft carriers, other warships, fighter jets and refueling aircraft.
Trump threatened to bomb Iran for the first time last month. He made the threat in the context of the death of thousands of people when Iran’s security forces brutally suppressed the country’s anti-government protests.
What else is known so far:
- The US and Israel launched an attack on Iran. Trump confirmed that a “major operation” was underway.
- Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz says his country launched a pre-planned attack on Tehran.
- Explosions were heard in five Iranian cities. These include Isfahan, Qawm, Karaj, Kermanshah and the capital Tehran.
- Israel says Iran has launched a counter-missile attack.
- The Israeli Defense Forces, or IDF, said sirens were sounded in several areas after the missile was detected ‘coming from the direction of Iran’. They said Israel’s air force was working to deter the threat and retaliate.
