The UN Human Rights Office Opening Agreement in Bangladesh


The UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) and the Government of Bangladesh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to assist in promoting and protecting human rights. This agreement will open a UN human rights mission in Bangladesh.

The three -year -old MOU was signed this week this week, according to a notification published on the OHCHR website on Friday.

According to the notice, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Turk and the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

Since August last year, the involvement of the United Nations Human Rights Office with Bangladesh has increased significantly. The office is working with various stakeholders to conduct a detailed information on human rights reforms and public protests.

The High Commissioner Filker Turk said the Memorandum of Understanding carried an important message to the human rights commitment to the country, which is a cornerstone of the transformation.

“This will enable my office to better help in implementing the recommendations made in our information investigative report,” he added. At the same time, the ongoing basic reforms of Bangladesh will give us the opportunity to provide our skills and assistance directly with the government, civil society and others. '

The new mission will provide training and technical assistance to the authorities in various fields to fulfill the national and international human rights commitments in the country. In addition, it will work to enhance the capacity of government institutions and civil society.
