The High Court directed the government to take effective measures to prevent the spread of dengue throughout the country. It has also been ordered to form a high-powered committee with local and foreign experts to find ways to control, prevent and eradicate dengue.
In view of this writ, Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf gave this order along with the bench rule on Tuesday.
Lawyer Bani Ismail filed the writ last week seeking necessary directions to prevent the spread of dengue. Lawyer Mahin Muktadir Rahman heard on behalf of the writ petitioner. Deputy Attorney General Mahfuz bin Yusuf was for the state.
Lawyer Mahin Muktadir told the daily newspaper that effective measures have been taken within 30 days and a high-powered committee has been formed to report within 60 days. The committee will plan long term.
He said, the court has also issued a ruling seeking to know why inaction to prevent the spread of dengue should not be declared against public interest and beyond legal authority. The local government secretary, health secretary, director general of the health department and administrators, chief executive officers of the two city corporations of Dhaka have been asked to respond to the rule.
