Technology giant Google has confirmed that Donald Trump's executive order will be renamed the Gulf of Mexico in Google Maps in the United States to be renamed Gulf of America.
However, the region in Mexico will be known as the Gulf of Mexico as before. And in other countries outside these two countries, both names will be used for this region.
In addition, Mount McKinley, the highest mountain in North America, will be renamed Mount McKinley in the United States. The change is also being made in accordance with Trump's executive order on January 26.
In a post by Social Media X, Google says, “When the government name changes, we have a long practice to update them.”
Google says about the use of different labels in the United States, Mexico and other regions of the world, 'When the government names of different countries are different, Maps users see their local government name. Both names can be seen everywhere. This rule has been applied here too. '
Within hours of US President Donald Trump, the names of the names were changed within hours of taking over. It was part of his election commitment.
“From now on, the Gulf of Mexico will be termed as the Official Gulf of America, and the highest mountain in North America will be known as Mount McKinley,” said a statement from the US Home Ministry.
Google says the names will be implemented in Google Maps after the names of the US government are updated in the data system.
When Trump promised to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico, Mexican President Claudia Shinebum jokingly said that the entire North American name should be changed.
Claudia suggests that the whole region is named 'America Mexican' or 'Mexican America'. It is part of a document before the Constitution of Mexico.
Trump commented on the Gulf of Mexico's name change, the name 'Gulf of America' is quite beautiful and correct. “Mexico will have to stop the entry of millions of people in our country,” he added.
