Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that they will be moving to a new e-visa system from January 1, 2025. 94 Royal Thai Embassies and Consulate General Offices will provide this service together.
Launched with the slogan 'Apply, Anywhere, Anytime', the e-Visa system will make the visa process in Thailand easier, faster and more efficient, government sources said.
They say it is a big advantage for those who want to get a visa to enter Thailand.
Orawyut Pongprapapant, director general of Thailand's consular affairs department, told China News Network that visa applications can now be made online through this system. This will reduce the required documents. This system will be linked to the database of all government agencies of that country.
At the same time, the current visa exemption for citizens of countries with visa exemption agreements will also be in effect. However, this new e-Visa system will be used for other visas.
Earlier in July 2023, the Thai government announced that citizens of 93 countries can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa. That system came into effect from July 15.
The tourism sector in Thailand is becoming stronger day by day. Till October 2024, 2 crore 66 lakh foreign tourists have come to the country. Which is 30% more than the same period last year.
The Thai Tourism Authority has adopted a development plan for 2025. Special market arrangements have been given importance in this plan. These include healthcare tourism, luxury travel, sports tourism and honeymoon tourism.
Thailand's Foreign Minister Maris Sangyampongsa said the Thai e-Visa program is a big step to boost international tourism and investment. This will not only simplify the visa process, but also establish Thailand as an international hub.
The Thai government plans to partner with luxury brands to create special experiences for high-end tourists.
