Sri Lanka picked up McKenzie ahead of the South Africa Test


Sri Lanka appointed Neil McKenzie as consultant coach ahead of the Test series against South Africa. The former South African right-handed batsman will perform this duty for 9 days.

McKenzie, 48, will join the job on November 13, with his contract running until November 21, the board said.

McKenzie retired in 2009 after scoring a record partnership of 415 runs in Test history. He has worked as a coaching staff with several teams. Became batting consultant for Bangladesh in 2018. He resigned after two years. He was the batting consultant for the Proteas in the Test series against the West Indies last year. Apart from this, he has also worked in the Mjansi Super League in the same role. He was the batting coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

Regarding McKenzie's appointment, Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley De Silva said, 'McKenzie will help the Sri Lankan players adapt to this challenge by bringing important and deep insight into the South African conditions.'

The first Test between Sri Lanka and South Africa will start in Durban on Wednesday, November 27. The second and last match will be on December 5.
