Russia launched its second-largest attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure this month. Thursday's (November 28) attack left millions without power. British news agency Reuters reported on national and local officials.
Energy Minister of Ukraine Zerman Galushenko wrote on the social media Facebook that the enemy has once again launched a massive attack targeting the energy infrastructure.
National grid operator Ukrainergo has cut emergency power services to minimize damage during the attack. Major private power company DTE said the power outages affected the capital Kyiv as well as Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions.
Russia has previously carried out 10 major attacks on the country's energy infrastructure. Those attacks severely damaged the entire sector and threatened long-term power outages ahead of winter.
About 280,000 customers were left without power during Thursday's missile attack in the western Rivne region, Governor Oleksandr Koval said. He also mentioned the disruption in water supply. However, the details of the damage were not disclosed.
The mayor of the western city of Lutsk reported the power outage, saying alternative power connections had been put in place to supply water and heat.
The governor of Kharkiv region, Oleg Siniehubov, said the missile attack damaged the windows of a business establishment and an apartment building in the city.
Missile attacks targeting infrastructure were also carried out in northeastern Sumi region, local authorities said.
The military administration of Kiev said some buildings and a truck were slightly damaged by missile debris in a commercial area of ​​the city.
