The rupee strengthened 34 paise in early trade on Friday to reach 84.96 against the US dollar. After the impact of the US fee, the widespread weakness in the dollar brought relief to the currencies of the emerging markets, including the rupee.
The interbank opened at 85.07 against the rupee in the foreign currency exchange market. Then reached 84.96 per dollar with an edge, which shows a gain of 34 paise in the previous closed price. The rupee closed at 85.30 against the US dollar on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, depicting the US dollar position against six major currencies, fell 0.42 percent to 101.64. International standard Brent crude fell 0.84 percent at $ 69.55 per barrel.
