Prime Minister Narendra Modi watched the Ramayana of Laos.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached communist country Laos on Thursday on a 2-day visit to attend the India-ASEAN Summit. Here the Buddhist monks welcomed him. Prime Minister Modi also watched the Ramayana of Laos in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
PM Modi will attend the India-ASEAN Summit for the 10th time in Laos. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, during this period, PM Modi will also hold bilateral talks with many leaders of ASEAN countries.
Lao Prime Minister Sonex Siphandon had invited PM Modi. Laos is hosting the India-ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit this year.

Modi government's 'Act East Policy' completes 10 years This year the Modi government's 'Act East Policy' is completing 10 years. In this respect also this tour becomes very important. 'Act East Policy' is an important part of India's diplomacy, which aims to strengthen relations with South East Asian countries.
PM Modi had announced this policy during the India ASEAN Summit in 2014. This policy is considered an upgraded version of former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao's Look East Policy, which he launched in 1992.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had visited South Asian countries Brunei and Singapore in September. President Draupadi Murmu also visited Timor-Leste in August.

During his visit to Brunei, PM Modi met Sultan Bolkiah at his palace.
'There will be discussion on the issue of Myanmar and China' The long-running civil war in Myanmar and regional tensions over the South China Sea may be discussed during the East Asia Summit. Both these issues remain major challenges for ASEAN countries.
In February 2021, the Myanmar army overthrew the government of Aung San Suu Kyi. Since then, about 6,000 people have been killed in Myanmar and more than 3 million have been displaced.
This year, there have been several clashes between China and the Philippines over border disputes in the South China Sea. Vietnam last week alleged that China attacked its fishermen in the disputed areas of the South China Sea.
China has also sent patrol ships to areas claimed by Indonesia and Malaysia.

ASEAN is a group of 10 countries ASEAN was established in Bangkok in 1967. It is a regional organization of South-East Asian countries. Its full name is Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). It has a total of 10 member countries, which include Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei and Laos.
India had signed Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with ASEAN countries in 2022. Under this, work is done together to enhance defence, economic and technological interests. At the same time, India is strengthening relations with ASEAN countries to counter China in this region.
