Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Organizer of Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) Southern Region and Member of Parliament for Comilla-4 Constituency has commented that there are many governments within the government. He said that while the issue of decision-making was clear earlier, it is not clear who is making the decision now.
He made this comment while addressing the National Convention on ‘Fuel, Economy, Human Rights, Reforms and Referendum’ held at Mukti Jodha Hall of Diploma Engineers Institute in Kakrail, capital, on Sunday. The convention was organized by NCP’s Reform Implementation Committee.
Criticizing the government’s policies, Hasnat said, ‘Our government has many mood swings. It means that it is not understood who the government really is. I mean it was actually understood during Hasina’s time that who takes the decision at the end of the day. Divorce problem is also decided by Hasina at the end of the day. At the end of the day, everyone’s attention was drawn to Hasina.
Hasnat said, ‘now it is not understood, who takes the decision. I think there are many more governments within governments.’
This NCP leader alleged that the government is moving far away from the place where the desire of the people was created and the desire of the state was created.
Criticizing the statement of the Minister of Interior, Hasnat Abdullah said, “On that day, Mr. Salahuddin Sahib admitted, “We actually accepted what was said then, in a way, for reforms and elections; We have accepted it only for the election to be done.’ “This is a weakness of the government.”
This NCP leader said, ‘It is a form of hypocrisy. It means he is standing in the parliament and exposing his hypocrisy, his hypocrisy in front of the nation.
Regarding the institutional reforms, Hasnat Abdullah said, the structural reforms that were needed in the judiciary, bureaucracy and law enforcement forces have not been implemented.
About the police force, the NCP leader said that the police has been used as a political tool for a long time. But police are people too, they need their own protection and professional independence.
Alleging executive influence on the judiciary, NCP said that even though there is independence on paper, it is not possible to ensure influence-free justice in practice. He also claimed that invisible influence works in recruitment, promotion and posting.
Hasnat Abdullah said, ‘If the government thinks that it is not possible to run the state without controlling everything, then it will not give positive results in the long term. It is increasing deprivation among citizens, feelings of being cheated and mistrust of institutions.’
Regarding the energy sector, Hasnat Abdullah said that there is no alternative but to rapidly move towards renewable energy to ensure the country’s electricity and energy security. At the end of the speech, he said, there is no alternative to building transparency, accountability and strong, independent institutions in the governance of the state. To fulfill the people’s desire for change, real reforms must be implemented.
