Monira’s letter to EC to suspend Nusrat’s gazette

Jatiya Nagrik Party (NCP) joint convener Monira Sharmin has written to the Election Commission (EC) requesting not to publish the gazette of Nusrat Tabassum as a member of the reserved women’s seat in the National Parliament until the High Court writ is disposed of. The letter was given to the Despas department of the EC on Sunday.

Monira Sharmin said in the letter that she has filed a writ petition in the High Court against the returning officer’s decision to cancel her candidature. The hearing of this application is tomorrow Monday. He requested the EC not to publish the gazette until then.

Monira wrote in the letter, ‘Until the case is heard, it is necessary not to decide on the candidature of another candidate, Nusrat Tabassum. Since the party has nominated me for the reserved seat for women, the Election Commissioner should wait for the order of the High Court Division. Otherwise I will suffer irreparable loss.’

The nomination of Nusrat Tabassum, the nominee of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance and the joint convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) has been declared valid for the reserved women’s seat yesterday.

According to EC sources, the gazette mentioning Nusrat Tabassum as a member of parliament was supposed to be published on Sunday, but it is not happening. This gazette may be published tomorrow Monday.

On April 30, the EC published the gazette of 49 MPs elected unopposed among the 50 reserved seats for women in the Thirteenth Parliament. The oath ceremony of these 49 members of parliament is scheduled to take place around 9 pm today. NCP’s Nusrat Tabassum is unable to take oath as gazette is not published.
