MLS 'Most Valuable Player' Messi

Lionel Messi was not at the start of Major League Soccer due to an injury sustained in the last Copa America final. After returning to American football, he has made an impression. He was instrumental in breaking Inter Miami's record in the regular season. Argentina captain Landon Donovan was also recognized on Friday with the Most Valuable Player award.

Miami scored a record 74 points in the regular season this year. Messi contributed to 36 goals. Returned from injury to score 20 goals and 16 assists in just 19 games, the fifth most in a single season in league history. The team won the Supporters' Shield for the first time.

Miami and Messi's season ended with a disappointing exit from the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs.

Messi became the 10th South American Most Valuable Player. In addition, he received this award as the fifth Argentine after Luciano Acosta, Diego Valeri, Guillermo Barros Shellotto and Cristian Gomez.

Expressing his feelings, Messi said, 'I feel really honored to receive this award. I love every day here. I am very happy in this city. It is a pleasure for me to see your progress day by day. I urge you to continue fighting to fulfill your dreams.'
